ITT: We discuss the movies that will be coming out or that have come out this year.

What films did you see and you liked and which ones are you looking forward to.

SO far I've seen Iron Man 3. It was ok. Not that great.

Star Trek was great. Loved it and Khan is easily one of my favourite film villains now.

However best film to come out so far this year is Before Midnight. For those of you who don't know what it is its a series of films that started in 95 and 9 years later the sequel came out. Now 9 years later the 3rd in the series has come out. Great series to check out. With Ethan Hawke who imo is a very underrated actor.

Gonna get Django soon, stil, haven't seen it even though I'm quite into westerns.

But tbh I'm not really that into films anyway, prefer TV series'.

Pacific Rim should be the only film on anybodies radar.

Star Trek was shit btw, very un-memorable, like the first.

I never saw JJ's first Star Trek but this one has Sherlock. Do I have to be a Star Trek nerd to enjoy it?

Has anyone seen Before Midnight here? The first two were amazing, I hope they didn't ruin it by turning it into a f***ing trilogy.

I enjoyed Man of Steel.

Pros: The cast was very good imo, especially Cavill who made a great Superman, unlike the cheesy plastic cunt from Returns. I loved the pre-Superman sequences, ie his childhood and traveling around working odd jobs and all that. And the Krypton intro was superb.

Cons: The action was too repetitive and the damage done to the city was ludicrous. A lot of things end up making no sense whatsoever and Zod's death at the end was rushed and a bit dumb.

It fell slightly below my expectations but I fucking hate Zack Snyder. If this reboot wants to compete with Batman they need more Nolan. I liked the film but a lot of work is to be done if they want the sequels to reach the heights of Dark Knight and Rises, especially considering Batman is an infinitely more interesting and likable hero than Superman, which doesn't make it any easier. It certainly has potential and wasting the talents of Cavill and Adams would be a huge shame.

The boring, halfhour fight scenes with an anti-climatic as fuck ending
Lois fucking Lane knowing his real identity, knowing how to use guns, knowing how to act shit
The shit dad
The fucking outfit
The fact that Zod the chav is lasering that family at the end, and they can easily escape is bs

Saw Man of Steel last night....thought it was good but not great. Action felt a bit repetitive at times (Supes must have gotten smashed through like 70 buildings throughout the whole movie). Also, they didnt really do a good job of making me care for Clarke/Kal-El in the same way I cared for other titular characters in superhero movies. 

At least I have This is the End to look forward to.

Agree with you both, but I think Matt, you're being a tad harsh. Superman always has cheesy lines. I never had really high expectations anyway, cos Zack Snyder is a piece of shit wanker. lol at Zod the Chav

If This is the End is the Seth Rogen film, I'll be seeing that. Simon Pegg's apocalypse film too. Trailer for the World's End didn't look too great but neither did the first two. On a related note, there's a new Anchorman 2 trailer.

Oh god, the lines are beyond bad though, my favorites are:

The poorly delivered: "I hear it goes downhill after the firstkiss"
The incredibly poor though-out: "There's only one outcome here; either you die, or I do!" Writers, pretty sure that's 2 different outcomes.
And it even ends on the shitty "I think he's hot" or whatever.

I reckon Worlds End will be vastly dissapointing.

Good high hopes for the Rogen one, though.

World's End is just like Hot Fuzz and Shaun. Trailers looked absolute shite for those too but they were both brilliant. Reckon this will be the same. Pegg doesn't disappoint too often so hopefully this one turns out good too.

dunno how my race is relevant here but

I really need to start reading the opening posts! Who would have thought we'd both be fans of this awesome series! I'm sort of a tool for these sorts of indie-ish romantic films. I still haven't had a chance to watch it but I'm guessing from you that it was good. 

More importantly, could our shared affinity for Richard Linklater's masterpiece finally be the draught that leads us to a meaningful friendship??

No. But it makes you less of an idiot in my eyes.

Its not "romanticish" at all. Its pretty depressing and has a different tone from the first 2.

If you like this series I would suggest checking out films such as Lost In Translation and Garden State. They're both about 10 years old but if you like the Before series and haven't seen those then check them out. The themes in those 5 fillms are basically my life.
